Toledo Bend Reservoir Fishing Report
for
January 31, 2012
This report is based on the areas above the Pendleton Bridge and including the areas of the old 1215 Highway and San Miguel creek and Lanan creeks. Water Level: 163.20 Water Temp: On the Main Lake 55 degrees and in the creeks 61 degrees. Generator: 1 Down Generator: 2 Down Spillway Gates: closed Current Flow: 204 CFM Crappie fishing has been has continued to slow down in the Chicken Coops areas over the past weekend. The Crappie should be in the spawning areas within two weeks so get your road runners ready should be very good spawn. The bridges with a little depth under them will be good areas to check in the upcoming weeks which are the Pendleton Bridge, Lanan Creek Bridge. Night fishing will also start picking up shortly as the crappie move into shallow water. Bass fishing continues to be good with many different ways to catch the bass. I have bass fished for the last four days in a row and the fish have hit different lures each day. The deep bite continues to be consistent and good numbers but the larger bass have come from 2 to 8 feet of water. The high winds on Saturday the bass hit the rattletraps the best with several fish in the five pound range and four bass in the three to four pound range ending up with a total of 18 bass. Sunday was totally different the bass would not touch a rattletrap but a Carolina rig and a Baby brush hog pulled through the grass produced the best with a catch of about 30 bass. Monday we caught 38 bass on Carolina rigs and the Gary Yamamoto Hula grubs with most fish coming from 18 to 25 feet deep. Every day is a new day bass fishing and the patterns change daily right now but fishing has been great. The SRA has reported they have cleared 49 miles of Boat Lanes so before planning fishing trips check out the SRA website for what was cleared. It was said if the lake rises 3 feet they would be safe to travel. We have now reached that 3 feet so hopefully we may be able to travel them. Continue to use caution in the shallow water areas always use idle speed if in doubt. Safety first is extremely important and under the current conditions just take a little extra time to get to your fishing areas safely. There is a map out on what boat lanes have been cleared and it comes from the Sabine parish Tourist Commission. Special Note: The Driftwood boat is open for boat launching. Bass boats only. The trail is marked with white bottles. Just use extreme caution and launch at your on risk. Special Note: Big D,s crayfish stand will be opening the first weekend in February so Mudbug season is back and life is good for those of us that love Boiled Crayfish
