When you pass the old stove pictured
here, you can almost hear the mumbled whisperings of the countless
stories and tall tales that must have passed around it on many a winter's
evening of the past. Originally opened in 1880, C. A. Nethery's "Mercantile"
handled just about everything the area frontier families needed. It's
still here waiting for your visit - with memorabilia, antiques, and
present day hardware products.

Fort Jesup State Commemorative Area was
originally a fort on the border of the United States (at the time
of the Louisiana Purchase) and Spanish Texas. An original small kitchen
has been preserved. Frequent programs presented at Fort Jesup bring
history to life for visitors.

Hodges Gardens is the nation's largest privately
owned horticultural parkland and wildlife refuge and is one of the
area's most celebrated attractions.

Indian casinos in Marksville and Coushotta - only a pleasant drive
away - and they offer a free bus service to the casino on a regular
basis. Riverboat casinos in Shreveport are about an hour and a half

Historic Sabine County jail sits on the
square in nearby Hemphill, Texas with the restored courthouse and
the famous "Cedar Tree" where the old men still play dominoes
daily. Walk through the old cells and see the "hanging rope"
still in place. The jail also has a museum.

Sabine Speedway is a quarter mile oval
stock-car racing track that has races March through November on Saturday
nights - just North of Many, Louisiana.

Toledo Bend Motocross is a new 1.25 mile
serpentine motocross racing track located just off Toledo Bend Reservoir
and out of Many, Louisiana. Racing for motorcycles and 4 wheelers.

of fishing lures and equipment. Some major area tournaments also have
registration at the store.

Retired military personnel can use the PX at nearby
Fort Polk, just outside of Leesville, Louisiana.

Canoe / camping / fishing trips, too; or "take a hike"
in Sabine National Forest - it's all around you here! On a quiet
evening you may even want to visit one of the area BINGO games.
